Below-freezing temperatures are forecasted for the rest of this week in Webster City, Iowa, so officials have made the decision to pull the plug early and cancel the 16th Annual Kwik Star Spring Meltdown at the Karl Chevrolet Hamilton County Speedway.
Slated for this Friday and Saturday, April 8-9, at the historic half-mile oval, there are currently no plans to reschedule this event for a later date this season.
The Summit USMTS National Championship presented by RacinDirt racers will now set their sights on the 2nd Annual Dairyland Showdown on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, May 4-6, at the Mississippi Thunder Speedway in Fountain City, Wis.
USMTS Modifieds will pay $3,000 to win Thursday, $5,000 to win Friday and $10,000 to win Saturday as they share the spotlight with the World of Outlaws Late Model Series in what promises to be another standing-room-only event at Bob Timm’s picturesque palace of speed.
The season opener for the Hamilton County Speedway moves to Saturday, April 16, for Karl Chevrolet Kids Night featuring Olsen Family USRA Modifieds, Seneca Foundry USRA Stock Cars, Stein Heating & Cooling USRA B-Mods, Diamond in the Rough USRA Hobby Stocks, USRA Tuners and the Karl Chevrolet Dirt Truck Series.
Car rides for the kids are planned for 6:45 and an Easter egg hunt will take place during intermission. There will also be a kids bike giveaway.
Pits open at 4 p.m., grandstand gates open at 5 and racing gets underway at 7:15.
Opening in July 1910, the Karl Chevrolet Hamilton County Speedway is the oldest speedway in the state of Iowa. In 1938, work began on the current location at the Hamilton County Fairgrounds. The semi-banked half-mile dirt track was completed in the spring of 1939, and the first races were held on the track in September of that year.
