Competitors, fans and track officials watched with glee as 2020 vanished in the rearview mirror and a new season got underway at Karl Chevrolet Hamilton County Speedway in Webster City, Iowa.

Kicking off action in the Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series, Decorah’s Dillon Anderson muscled his way past polesitter Chanse Hollatz of Clear Lake midway through the 18-lap feature race and picked up the win in the Seneca Foundry USRA Stock Cars.

Mark Elliott of Webster City contended early on but settled for third place while Derek Green of Granada, Minnesota, and 11th-starting Jesse Brown of Nashua rounded out the top five.

Topping the field of Stein Heating & Cooling USRA B-Mods, Tyler Inman of Altoona registered an impressive victory with runner-up Jake Sachau of Manning and two-time defending track champion Ty Griffith of Webster City hot on his heels.

Jared Boumeester of Waseca, Minnesota, came home fourth and two-time USRA B-Mod national champ Brandon Hare of Elma passed five cars to finish fifth in the 15-lap affair.

Tracy Halouska of Worthing, South Dakota, was a wire-to-wire winner in the 12-lap Diamond in the Rough USRA Hobby Stock main event. He was trailed by Fort Doge racers Bryce Sommerfeld and Jeremy Crimmins.

Six-time Mensink Racing Products USRA Hobby Stock national champion Dustin Gulbrandson of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, was fourth at the finish line with Magnolia, Minnesota’s Dylan Fitzpatrick following him to the checkered flag.

One of the richest events in the history of the 110-year-old facility, the Inaugural Karl Chevrolet Spring Challenge powered by MSD continues Saturday with USMTS Modifieds, Medieval USRA Stock Cars, USRA B-Mods and Mensink Racing Products USRA Hobby Stocks all back in action.

About the Karl Chevrolet Hamilton County Speedway: Opening in July 1910, the Hamilton County Speedway is the oldest speedway in the state of Iowa. In 1938, work began on the current location at the Hamilton County Fairgrounds. The semi-banked half-mile dirt track was completed in the spring of 1939, and the first races were held on the track in September of that year.

One of the many new improvements to the facility is a new 170-foot-long infield catwalk along the front-stretch. New lights and much more are already finished, underway or in the planning stages.

The Hamilton County Speedway is located off US 20 at exit 140, then 1.2 miles north, then 0.5 mile east on Bank St., then 0.4 mile south on Bluff St. to the Hamilton County Fairgrounds in Webster City, Iowa. The physical address is 1200 Bluff St, Webster City, IA 50595.

The AmericInn by Wyndham is the Official Host Hotel of the Hamilton County Speedway. Located just off the exit from Highway 20 at 411 Closz Drive, check them out online at AmercInn.com or call (515) 337-2611 to book your stay.
