With an eye on the sky, Hamilton County Speedway delays rebirth of Fall Futurity

October 10, 2018

One final event remains on the 2018 calendar for the Hamilton County Speedway driven by Spangler Automotive as the historic half-mile clay oval hosts the return of the Fall Futurity.

“With more rain on the way, local experts are calling for the Boone River to crest at 13.9 feet on Thursday, which will ensure the pits are underwater,” said track promoter Todd Staley. “With that being said, there is little to no chance of racing this weekend.”

The Fall Futurity is officially postponed until the final weekend of the month on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 26-27, with practice on Thursday, Oct. 25, weather permitting.

“We understand this date is late in the season but it could be 70 degrees too,” Staley added. “You just never know with Iowa weather.

“We will keep monitoring the track and, if at all possible, we will run a race this Saturday or Sunday because I think everybody is hungry for some more racing.”

There are no changes to the procedures or purses for the Fall Futurity, but officials are looking into hosting a Halloween Party in the Ed Prince Building after the races, complete with a live band or DJ on Friday night.

Featuring Malvern Bank Super Late Models, Olsen Family USRA Modifieds, Seneca Foundry USRA Stock Cars, Stein Heating & Cooling USRA B-Mods, Diamond in the Rough USRA Hobby Stocks and USRA Tuners, the top 8 feature finishers on Friday will be locked in for Saturday’s dash with the remainder of the “A” Main fields coming from “B” Mains and Last Chance Races.

The event will also showcase the region’s finest four-cylinder, front-wheel drive sport compact racers in the inaugural USRA Tuner Nationals which will be highlighted by a $1,000-to-win main event on Saturday that will start up to 36 cars three-wide.
