USMTS invades Webster City, Oskaloosa July 17-18

July 13, 2018  |  by Jeff Nun, USMTS.com

After a little summer vacation for the road warriors in the USMTS Hunt for the Casey’s Cup powered by Summit, a pair of Hawkeye State half-miles await the dirt modified titans July 17-18.

Also competing both days will be the wildly popular Iron Man Challenge featuring Holley USRA Stock Cars and Out-Pace USRA B-Mods plus USRA Hobby Stocks to round out the four-division card each night.

The United States Modified Touring Series returns to its birthplace on Tuesday, July 17, at the Hamilton County Speedway driven by Spangler Automotive in Webster City, Iowa, for the 12th Annual Casey's General Store Webster City Wrangle presented by AmericInn. This will be the only visit of the season to the historic speedplant where a complete makeover of the facility has taken place since the end of last season.

Todd and Janet Staley, who have steered the USMTS since 1999, became the promoters of the track last fall with Brad and Sarah Ratcliff running the weekly operations. New dirt was put down, a newly-remodeled VIP booth was completed, a unique racing experience party deck was erected and so much more has transformed this place into a fun venue for fans with an awesome, multi-grooved race track all year long.

Now in its 20th season, the first three Fall Jamboree events were held at the track from 1999-2001 before moving to the Deer Creek Speedway. Kelly Shryock won the first race on Oct. 7, 1999, while Ron Jones went on to capture the first Fall Jamboree title two days later. Since then, drivers such as Kevin Pittman, Tommy Myer, Willy Kraft, Mark Noble, Johnny Saathoff, Ryan Gustin, Johnny Scott, Jason Hughes, Jesse Sobbing and Cade Dillard have found glory in Webster City.

The pit gate opens at 4 p.m., grandstands open at 5 and racing starts at 7:15. General admission is $20 with kids ages 12-16 and seniors 65+ just $15. Children 10 and under get in for free. Pit passes are $35.

Coupons good for $2 off an adult ticket are available on race day at Casey's General Stores locations in Alden, Clarion, Dakota City, Dayton, Dows, Eagle Grove, Fort Dodge, Gilbert, Goldfield, Jewell, Roland, Story City and Webster City.

Come meet USMTS competitor “Big Daddy” Joe Duvall at the Casey’s General Store located near the race track at 700 Superior St. from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and see his awesome No.91 Spike Energy MB Customs Modified powered by Pace Performance.

The AmericInn by Wyndham is the Official Host Hotel of the Hamilton County Speedway driven by Spangler Automotive. Fill up every morning with a free homestyle breakfast followed by a dip in their heated indoor pool and hot tub, and each room features free Wi-Fi, a flat-screen HDTV with cable, mini-refrigerator, microwave, coffee and tea maker, desk, ironing amenities, and hair dryer. You can book a pet-friendly room for a small fee, and upgrade your stay to a suite with a whirlpool tub or fireplace. Located just off the exit from Hwy. 20 at 411 Closz Dr., call (515) 337-2611 to book your room today or check them out online at https://goo.gl/dMnpRN.

On Wednesday, July 18, the series will make its triumphant return to the Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa, Iowa, for the 11th Annual Summit Racing Summer Classic during the Mahaska County Fair and the 34th main event held in Osky.

It's been seven years since the USMTS fired up at “The Monster” and fans have witnessed some memorable shows here in the past, none more memorable than Brad Pinkerton's drive from 16th and a nearly half-lap deficit to pass Kelly Shryock late in the race for the win in July 2008.

USMTS standout Zack VanderBeek captured his second series win at his home track in the last event held here on July 20, 2011. Shryock tops the list with 12 career wins in Oskaloosa while Pinkerton has four. Ryan Gustin, Jason Krohn, Tommy Myer, John VanDenBerg and Chris Spieker each have a pair of wins while Al Hejna, Jason Hughes, Mark Noble, Bruce Hanford, Dan Bohr and Tony Fraise have one victory apiece.

The pit gate opens at 4 p.m., grandstands open at 5 and racing starts at 7:15. General admission is $20 with kids ages 12-16 and seniors 65+ just $15. Children 10 and under get in for free. Pit passes are $35.

Coupons good for $2 off adult ticket available on race day at Casey's General Stores locations in Albia, Eddyville, Fremont, Grinnell, Knoxville, Lovilia, Monroe, Montezuma, New Sharon, Oskaloosa, Ottumwa, Pella, Sigourney, Sully and What Cheer.

After the Oskaloosa invasion, the series heads to the I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Neb., for the 8th Annual Imperial Tile Silver Dollar Nationals on Friday and Saturday, July 20-21, as the USMTS teams up with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series for one of America’s crown jewel events.
