With fireworks on the track, a full grandstand was on hand for Fan Appreciation Night presented by D & B Agro-Systems and fireworks in the sky following the final checkered flag Saturday at the Hamilton County Speedway driven by Spangler Automotive in Webster City, Iowa.
The Malvern Bank Super Late Models had their best car count of the season, and points leader Darrell DeFrance of Marshalltown had his best finish of the season in taking down the victory—his first under the USRA banner. Rusty Patterson was a close second at the finish line, followed by Ryan Griffith, Gabe Umbarger and Paul Nagle.
In the Olsen Family USRA Modifieds, Evansdale’s J.D. Auringer secured his fourth feature win of the 2018 campaign by holding off polesitter Scott Olson and eighth-starting Mark Elliott. Carter VanDenBerg claimed the fourth spot and Jason Murray rounded out the top five.
Travis Shipman of Mason City broke through to earn his first Seneca Foundry USRA Stock Car win of the year and became the sixth different winner in seven weekly shows for the full-fendered division. Veteran Steve Jackson was second while polesitter and early leader Dylan Suhr was third. Parker Slagle and Jamie Anderson wound up fourth and fifth, respectively.
Stein Heating & Cooling USRA B-Mod action saw Webster City’s Ty Griffith motor to his second win of the season to pocket the $400 winner’s share of the prize money. Rocky Caudle came up one spot short of registering his third win while Brandon Toftee, Doug McCollough and Levi Chipp completed the top five.
Myles Michehl of Fort Dodge nabbed his first Diamond in the Rough USRA Hobby Stock win of the season and broke the stranglehold that Chance Hollatz and Eric Stanton held on Integrity Trucking Victory Lane. Hollatz, who has three wins to his credit, finished third behind Michehl and four-time USRA national champ Dustin Gulbrandson while Stanton—a four-time Hamilton County Speedway feature winner this season—held off tenth-starting Jamie Songer for fourth in Saturday’s main event.
Nate Coopman dominated the USRA Tuner feature. The current USRA national points leader from Mankato, Minn., picked up his fourth win of the season over Tyler Thompson, Matt Oberhelman, Ryan Bryant and Justin Nielson.
Next Saturday, July 14, is the inaugural running of “The Gambler” at the Hamilton County Speedway driven by Spangler Automotive. The program will feature Malvern Bank Super Late Models plus Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series action in the Olsen Family USRA Modifieds, Seneca Foundry USRA Stock Cars, Stein Heating & Cooling USRA B-Mods, Diamond in the Rough USRA Hobby Stocks and USRA Tuners.
