A four-time and a three-time winner, along with two two-time winners and a trio of first-time winners graced Integrity Trucking Victory Lane on Saturday night as 102 cars and drivers signed in for an amazing night of competition on Spangler Automotive Night at the Hamilton County Speedway driven by Spangler Automotive.
With extra money on the line for the Diamond in the Rough USRA Hobby Stocks courtesy of Baker Trucking, Eric Stanton of Carlisle rolled to his fourth main event victory of the season in collecting the $400 top prize for the division. Derek Willert of Marble Rock appeared to have the field covered until Stanton was finally able to make the pass for the lead late in the race after charging from the 10th starting spot.
Willert held on for runner-up honors with ninth-starting Myles Michehl of Fort Dodge finishing third. Bill Bonnett of Knoxville and Zac Smith of Mason City completed the top 5.
In the Malvern Bank Super Late Model feature race, Charlie McKenna of Ames passed points leader Darrell DeFrance of Marshalltown for the lead on lap 5 and did not look back in capturing $700 and his third win of the 2018 campaign.
DeFrance, who started on the pole with McKenna to his outside, followed him to the finish line with Jason Hahne of Webster City, Gabe Umbarger of Garner and Ryan Griffith of Webster City in third, fourth and fifth, respectively.
Charlie McKenna won his third Malvern Bank Super Late Model main event of the season at the Hamilton County Speedway in Webster City, Iowa, on Saturday, June 23, 2018.
Webster City’s Mark Elliott scored his second Olsen Family USRA Modified feature win of the season after a crowd-pleasing wheel-to-wheel battle with Blairsburg’s Scott Olson before grabbing the lead for good with three laps to go in the 20-lapper.
Although his two-race win streak came to an end Saturday, J.D. Auringer of Evansdale powered his way from 10th on the grid to third at the checkered flag. First-time visitor Shane DeMay of Denison was fourth and Devon Havlik of Iowa Falls rounded out the top 5.
Defending Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series national champion Elijah Zevenbergen of Ocheyedan grabbed his first Seneca Foundry USRA Stock Car win in his first trip to the Hamilton County Speedway this season. Damon Murty paced the early laps of the feature prior to a door-to-door contest with Zevenbergen that lasted more than 10 laps before he eventual winner secured the spot over the 22-car field.
Murty, of Chelsea, wound up second, Jesse Brown of Nashua was third, Carter Hook of Ackley finished in the fourth spot and fifth went to last week’s winner, Troy Jerovetz of Webster City.
The Stein Heating & Cooling USRA B-Mods saw Jake Sachau of Denison pick up his second win of the year, and first since opening night on May 5. Sachau outlasted Jared Van Deest of Holland, Ty Griffith of Webster City and Doug McCollough of Webster City for the winner’s trophy. Meanwhile, Cody Thompson of Sioux City finished fifth after started 15th in the 18-lap main event.
Polk City’s Steve Jackson and Miles Michehl of Fort Dodge had a great race for the lead in the DTRA Dirt Truck Series nightcap until a flat right front tire sidelined Michehl and allowed Jackson to dominate the rest of the way.
Rick Clark of Des Moines wound up second, Bryan Spangler of Coon Rapids claimed the third position, Jeff Frevert of Fort Dodge finished fourth and Shonn Mapes of Ankeny was fifth.
Another first-time visitor resulted in another first-time Integrity Trucking Victory Lane visitor after Tyler Thompson of Sioux City led all 10 laps in the USRA Tuner feature. Oliver Monson of Clear Lake, Ryan Bryant of Mason City, Matt Baker of Britt and Fort Dodge driver Matt Oberhelman raced from 11th to fifth.
Overall, the weather was favorable and all first-time competitors this season got a free pit pass from Baker Trucking. The racing surface was nothing short of incredible and produced fantastic racing with drivers able to race all over every inch of the track.
BOONE RIVER BAYOU: The biggest race of the summer is coming this Tuesday and Wednesday, June 26-27, with the inaugural Boone River Bayou Dirt Track Championships at the Hamilton County Speedway driven by Spangler Automotive.
