Six drivers visit victory lane on Armed Forces Night at Hamilton County Speedway

The Hamilton County Speedway driven by Spangler Automotive celebrated our nation’s military heroes Saturday on Armed Forces Night presented by D&B Agro-Systems.

Stein Heating & Cooling USRA B-Mods saw Ty Griffith of Webster City collect the $400 winner’s check with Jake Sachau, Doug McCollough, Rocky Caudle and Alex Zwanziger rounding out the top five finishers.

Eric Stanton of Carlisle rolled to his second straight triumph in the main event for the Diamond in the Rough USRA Hobby Stocks. Derek Willert crossed the finish line in second, followed by Chanse Hollatz, Bryce Sommerfeld and Seth Jansen.

The second event of the season for the Malvern Bank Super Late Models saw a doubling of the entries and a new winner in Garner’s Gabe Umbarger. Jason Hahne claimed the runner-up paycheck, veteran Darrell DeFrance was third, Ryan Griffith finished fourth and the winner two weeks ago, Charlie McKenna, raced from ninth on the grid to fifth.

In Olsen Family USRA Modified action, polesitter Mark Elliott of Webster City took the win and $500 winner’s share of the purse while J.D. Auringer followed in second. Scott Olson, Jarid Ratzke and Devon Havlik were third, fourth and fifth, respectively.

From the sixth starting spot, Jason Minnehan of Churdan grabbed the win in the Seneca Foundry USRA Stock Car feature race over Pat Graham, Mark Elliott, Andrew Borchardt and Steve Jackson.

The USRA Tuner feature found Mason City’s Ryan Bryant in victory lane for the first time during the 2018 campaign. Oliver Monson, Matt Baker, Brad Mayland and Matt Oberhelman completed the top five.

Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series action continues next Saturday, June 9, for the School’s Out Special presented by Casey's General Store. All kids and teenagers with a valid school ID are admitted free of charge. Bike races, a candy toss and more are on tap for youngsters.

Malvern Bank Super Late Models, Olsen Family USRA Modifieds, Seneca Foundry USRA Stock Cars, Stein Heating & Cooling USRA B-Mods, Diamond in the Rough USRA Hobby Stocks and USRA Tuners are on the six-division card.

The pit gates open at 4:30 p.m., spectator gate opens at 5, the drivers meeting is called to order at 6:25, hot laps begin at 6:40 and racing starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $12 for adults, $8 for juniors ages 12-16 and kids 11 and under are free. Fans can also purchase a Family Pack for two adults and two juniors for $32 (save $8). Pit passes are $30, youth ages 6-10 are $20 and kids 5 and under are free.

Opening in July 1910, the Hamilton County Speedway is the oldest speedway in the state of Iowa. In 1938, work began on the current location at the Hamilton County Fairgrounds. The semi-banked half-mile dirt track was completed in the spring of 1939, and the first races were held on the track in September of that year.

The Hamilton County Speedway driven by Spangler Automotive is located off of US 20 at exit 140, then 1.2 miles north, then 0.5 mile east on Bank St., then 0.4 mile south on Bluff St. in Webster City, Iowa (1200 Bluff St, Webster City, IA 50595).
