SLMR East Series

Pospisil dominates SLMR in Webster City win

May 20, 2023  |  by Anthony Ainslie

The Haulin’ with Hoker Trucking Super Late Models East Series’ first champion returned to victory lane after dominating Saturday’s main event at Hamilton County Speedway.

The extremely fast half-mile at the Hamilton County Fairgrounds was the sight of round three for the Haulin’ with Hoker Trucking East Series. A field of 22 cars from Iowa, Nebraska, Minnesota, and Wisconsin made the trip to Webster City, Iowa for battle on a gorgeous Saturday night.

Derrick Stewart started his night on the right foot as he laid down the fastest lap in qualifying with a time of 18.646 seconds. The night’s three heat races were won by Andy Eckrich, Corey Zeitner, and long-time late model veteran, Lance Mathees.

All 22 entries took to the track for the night’s 30-lap main event. Tad Pospisil took to the race lead from the pole position, and that is where he would stay all night long. A multitude of drivers challenged him for the lead as Corey Zeitner, Chad Holladay, Jeff Aikey, and Charlie McKenna all made bids for the top spot.

A couple of front runners had trouble throughout the night. Corey Zeitner had a mechanical failure while he was running second which brought out the caution flag. He would finish 21st.

On a restart, top qualifier Derrick Stewart spun out while coming up to speed. He was relegated to the back of the pack but proceeded to work his way back into the top ten ultimately finishing seventh.

J.C. Wyman had a fifth-place run going for him late in the race when he spun out and went over the edge of turn one with only four laps remaining. The Griswald, Iowa driver came back to finish 13th.

Meanwhile, no one had enough to catch Tad Pospisil. The Norfolk, Nebraska driver led all 30 laps to capture his second consecutive feature win at Hamilton County. It was his first win of the 2023 season and his 37th win all-time with the Haulin’ with Hoker Trucking and Malvern Bank Super Late Models Series.

Chad Holladay came home in second while hometown racer Jason Hahne makes a late-race charge to finish third. Jeff Aikey and Luke Goedert rounded out the top five.

The Haulin’ with Hoker Trucking East Series will finish out the weekend with the tour’s first of three visits to the Mason City Motor Speedway in Mason City, Iowa.
